Funkhaus is a playful and expressive monospaced typeface born at the Vienna Broadcasting House (Funkhaus Wien), a landmark building that once housed Austria’s national radio broadcaster. Its design takes inspiration from stylised radar displays, tape reels, and radio waves, all of which connect to broadcasting. Each letterform follows an underlying grid system combining a limited set of components in varied ways. By emphasising ornamental and geometric shapes, as well as symmetry and flowing lines, the typeface also reflects aesthetic qualities of Viennese Art Nouveau.
